June

Hi everybody,

June is always a very busy month. A lot of festivals, exams, and other stuff to do.
Last weekend I played with Chris Strik New Orleans Experience at two festivals. This was great!
Yesterday I mastered Bora Bora with Sander van der Heide. I’m very happy with the sound. And it’s a very nice band. I’ll keep you posted on how to order this summersound-cd.
I’m now working on arrangements for Dancing With The Stars.
Coming weekend we will be playing with Satori Society in de Dromedaris in Enkhuizen.

Recording Horns

•May 18, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Yesterday we recorded the horns for Tom’s new cd. It was a big operation since I wanted to record the horns in the livingroom. Because it has a nice wooden floor. It sounds great! We recorded 8 pieces in 5 hours. These guys are such professionals. Truly amazing arrangements by Henk Huizinga, Martijn van Iterson and Tom. I wrote one new piece myself. It’s really magical to hear everything come together. Looking forward to mixing this mega-project. In June I will be mixing 3 cds I play on. The new Tim Langedijk Trio, Tom Beek Big Time and Bora Bora (this is a band I play with in Spain every year. Jeroen van Vliet on rhodes, Mete Erker sax, Ferhan Otay guitar and Pascal Vermeer on drums).

Tom Beek’s Big Time

We’ve been recording 2 days with a new band of Tom Beek called: Tom Beek’s Big Time. This is an incredible band with 5 horns.  The rythmsection: Marcel Serierse on drums, Martijn van Iterson on guitar, Rob van Bavel on rhodes, me on bass.  I’ve posted about this group earlier. The recordingsession was really nice! Relaxed, great playing and great sounding music. Next week we’re going to record the horns! I’m looking forward to mixing this project, because it already sounds so good. These players are incredible.

Highlights In March

I’ve locked myself in my house this month with enough food and water, to write the arrangements for Danny de Munk Live in The Heineken Music Hall 2009. This was a lot of work….! Yesterday I finished it at 4 am.
I went to two great concerts of two heros. Allan Holdsworth and my all time hero: Wayne Shorter. I went to two concerts of Wayne Shorter, and I was blown away. He’s still evolving. Such an inspiration!
I made a big walk in the middle of nowhere and took a picture wich is shown below. I think Holland is beautiful.
I went to Amsterdam with Tim Langedijk to attend to a meeting for music marketing in Germany. We learned almost nothing, but we met Jasper van ‘t Hof. He is one of the best pianoplayers in Holland. He’s a strong man, in a very positive way, I think. His music is great.
Together with Sander van der Heide I mastered a cd for a local bluesplayer : Double U Bean.
I used Twitter for 3 weeks but I’ve terminated my account, I’m not social enough probably…
With Tim Langedijk we did some more recording. The 31th of march we’re playing in jazzcafe Dizzy in Rotterdam.
Today I’m monitoring an exam in Alkmaar, and tonight I’m flying to Munich for a weekend with my brother.
April will be all about recording the new cd of Tom Beek. I’m in the band as well, and also co-producer. I’m really looking forward, because Tom has got some great music to record!

Satori Society Recording

I’ve been recording a lot lately. It’s one of the best ways to develope as a musician, I think. You can be very concentrated, and you can hear every little detail in sound and interaction.  I’m very happy with all these fantastic groups I record with. Today we recorded with Satori Society again. We all write pieces for this group and without preperation or rehearsel we record several takes per session. With this group this really works and magic happens. Wim, Kim and Tom are fantastic musicians to play with.
